Michalis Papaioannou, an economist and former IMF official, spoke about the recent shooting incident outside a reception venue in Washington in the presence of President Trump, the deep polarization in the United States—comparable to the Nixon era—and the high cost of living, which remains the biggest problem for the average American family. He was speaking on Voice of Greece Radio, on the program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Mr. Papaioannou stressed that Americans’ interest in developments in the Middle East is closely linked to the impact on their personal finances. When asked about the influence of the Greek-American lobby, he estimated that it no longer holds the power it once did.
