Konstantinos Voukelatos, a third-generation Greek and president of the Greek Community of Buenos Aires, discussed the impressions and emotions experienced by those who participated in the three-day events of the Clergy-Laity Assembly of South America, which took place from November 16 to 18 in the Argentine capital, on Voice of Greece and the show “Our Global Voice” with Petros Diplas and Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Mr. Voukelatos mentioned that approximately 650 people from 16 Greek communities in South America, such as from Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, along with 16 dance troupes, participated, alongside priests, representatives from Greece, such as the General Secretary of Greeks Abroad, Ms. M. Myrogianni, four parliamentarians, and others. The strengthening of the ties between the Greek diaspora in South America and the motherland, as well as Orthodoxy, were among the topics discussed. He emphasized that it is encouraging to see the revival of previous programs that hosted diaspora Greeks in Greece, which had ceased during the economic crisis, such as those for Greeks aged 18-30, who are currently in Greece.
When asked what impressed him the most, Mr. Voukelatos highlighted the greater interest and strengthening of relations shown by the representatives of Greece who participated in the recent Clergy-Laity Assembly in Buenos Aires, compared to the previous one in Uruguay. “Everyone agreed to meet again at the next Clergy-Laity Assembly, which will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in two years.”
