Filmmaker Dimitris Nakos on “Take Your Time” | 08 May 2025

The radio show “Take Your Time”, hosted by Prokopis Angelopoulos, welcomed Dimitris Nakos to the studio today — a recently awarded filmmaker at the Greek Film Festival in Berlin and a professor at the University of Athens — on the occasion of his feature film “Meat”.

This compelling film, which had its world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival and went on to win three awards at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, blends social realism, a powerful script, and outstanding performances within a striking cinematic atmosphere. The story was inspired by a real farm in Kymi, Evia, owned by the director’s father-in-law, where the film was also shot.

Synopsis:
In a rural village in Greece, Takis is preparing for the grand opening of his new butcher shop. The day before the opening, his son Pavlos kills a neighbor who is claiming part of their land. The only witness is Christos, a young man from Albania whom Takis has raised since childhood.

“Meat” is a story of cover-up, with its core centered on the question of responsibility. Rooted in true events from the Greek countryside, the film magnifies reality through the lens of fiction to deliver a nuanced portrayal of social realism.
