On Monday, October, “Our Town” hosted Nikos Touliatos.
The experienced and talented musician, invited to the studio of Voice of Greece, talked about his long and exciting career as a drummer, as a director of various unique festivals, and as a musician in general, with many interests and activities in visual arts, theater, poetry, and dance.
He discussed his major collaborations, his participation in international festivals, his stage presence in theatrical performances, and his involvement with the band “Iskra,” which significantly influenced the local music scene. He also talked about the music he has composed for film and theater.
The pioneering artist shared stories from his many travels worldwide, where, as a distinguished musician, he performed various musical genres and organized major cultural events, leading percussion orchestras that stood out and won awards.
A special mention was made of his significant experience when, with 400 drummers from the percussion group “Ichodrasi,” he participated in the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games, causing a sensation by using athletes’ equipment as percussion instruments in a composition of his own. In a comprehensive discussion with Themis R., Nikos Touliatos also touched on political, philosophical, and social topics of interest.
There were references to the CDs and books he has published, as well as his activities in recent years in the field of theater as both an actor and director.
