In his interview with Voice of Greece and the show “Take Your Time,” Nikolas Farantouris, MEP for SYRIZA, discussed the future of SYRIZA and the visions it must serve. Mr. Farantouris elaborated on his responsibilities in the European Parliament and the initiatives led by the European Union for environmental protection and combating climate change, in which he actively participates.
He also addressed the internal developments within SYRIZA following Famellos’ election. He emphasized that the key issue for the party’s future is to provide solutions to societal problems and turn the page with progressive governance, stating, “SYRIZA only has a reason to exist if it can serve this vision. If it cannot, something else will emerge.”
Farantouris clarified his full support for the party’s new leader but stressed that “if SYRIZA wants a future, it must look only forward.” He also condemned as utterly shameful and hypocritical the actions of those who take parliamentary seats and leave the party, noting that these were the same individuals who, only months ago, criticized others for leaving after Kasselakis’ election.
Finally, he underscored the urgent need for swift steps in restructuring the party, proposing ideas capable of gaining broader consensus and implementing progressive governance as soon as possible.
