George Serafeim from Canada on “Our Global Voice” | 18 Mar. 2025

George Serafeim, who immigrated with his family from Serres to the freezing city of Winnipeg, Canada, five and a half years ago and became a Canadian citizen a year and a half ago, spoke about his recent commissioning as an officer in the Canadian Air Force. In an interview on the Voice of Greece radio program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis, he shared what led him, at almost 54 years old, to pursue such a goal, undergoing a series of challenging tests over the past two years.

Mr. Serafeim stated that he wanted to learn new things and meet new people while also setting an example for his children. “We came here (Canada) to explore our limits, to see what more we can do, how far we can go, to accomplish things we could never have even imagined in Greece. Both Olympia (his wife) and I became teachers at the Greek school. Who would have thought I’d become a teacher? But it’s something truly wonderful. It’s good to experience this as well,” he emphasized.

George Serafeim highlighted the importance of trying new things and not fearing failure “because through failures, we learn and become better,” he concluded.
