The special May Day 2025 edition of “Take Your Time” was dedicated to the meaning and message of the day. We opened with historian Kostis Karpozilos, who offered insight into the history and legacy of May Day. The conversation then turned to today’s labor landscape, with labor lawyer Matina Triantafylli discussing key issues facing workers. Giorgos Petropoulos from ADEDY’s Executive Committee and Dimitris Karageorgopoulos, board member of GSEE, shared reflections on this year’s celebrations and the continued fight for workers’ rights. From the tourism and hospitality sector, Giorgos Hotzoglou, president of the industry’s union, described the difficult conditions seasonal workers are facing this year—including widespread violations of labor laws and substandard accommodation and work environments.
The program concluded with Chrysanthi Georgiou, the new president of “ROI – Citizens for Urban Streams,” who spoke about the group’s mission to protect Greece’s remaining streams—precious ecosystems that serve as green lungs and biodiversity hubs, now increasingly threatened by misguided development.
