Greek New Zealanders Gabrielle George and Yvonne Clarke, third- and second-generation descendants respectively, spoke to Voice of Greece and “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis about their family’s migration story and their enduring connection to their Greek heritage.
They reflected on their family’s journey to New Zealand in the early twentieth century and their deep affection for Greek culture and for Plomari, on the island of Lesvos. Plomari was the birthplace of the pioneering Giorgos Mastrogiorgos, Gabrielle George’s great-grandfather and Yvonne Clarke’s grandfather, whose legacy continues to connect the family to its Greek roots across generations.
