Voice of Greece’s live program “Moving Worlds,” hosted by Katerina Batzaki, opened a meaningful conversation on refugees, inclusion, and coexistence within the school community.
The studio guest was Elena Karagianni, coordinator of the Municipality of Piraeus’ School Street Festival of Art and Acceptance. She spoke about the need for well-organized, multicultural schools where diversity is embraced as a strength rather than perceived as a challenge, and where racism has no space to take root.
The discussion was prompted by the return of the School Street Festival of Art and Acceptance after an eight-year hiatus, under the slogan, “Children Can Lead the Way to Peace!”
Through a thoughtful and deeply human conversation, the program explored the integration of refugee children into Greek schools, the challenges of multicultural education, both overt and subtle forms of racism, and the role of art as a universal language of expression, understanding, and acceptance.
Centered on the question of whether our society can move beyond merely tolerating diversity to embracing it as an everyday reality, the episode reminded listeners that the most meaningful journeys are those that transform the way we see others—and, ultimately, ourselves.
