Moving Worlds: A Tribute to Karpathos | 30 Mar. 2026

A different kind of journey—beyond maps and the labels of a “destination”—unfolded in the Voice of Greece program hosted by Katerina Batzaki on Monday, 30 March 2026.

Karpathos emerged not as a place to visit, but as an experience to be lived—an island that resists the passage of time, preserving its customs, traditions, and deep cultural identity in an authentic way.

Eirini Papoutsaki, from the Folklore Museum of Menetes, spoke about a space that functions as a living imprint of the island’s everyday life. Through objects, memories, and narratives, she highlighted the importance of preserving a tradition that does not belong to the past, but continues to breathe in the present.

Evangelia Agapiou approached the contemporary face of Karpathos through the lens of ecotourism, also drawing on a recent feature by National Geographic. The discussion highlighted the delicate balance between tourism development and the need to safeguard the authenticity of a place that does not seek to be altered.

From its historical presence dating back to Homeric times to the living traditions of villages such as Olympos of Karpathos, the program presented Karpathos as a place that is not simply “offered”—but revealed to those ready to truly experience it.

The program “Moving Worlds” continues to seek out places that are not easily explained—but that stay with you.
