“The Village That Listens”: A journey to the Musical Village of Agios Lavrentios, Pelion | 03 Aug. 2026

How can a small village become an international meeting place for artists and demonstrate that art has the power to build communities?

On “Moving Worlds,” Katerina Batzaki took listeners to the Musical Village of Agios Lavrentios in Pelion, a unique initiative that for the past twenty years has brought together musicians, artists, and participants from around the world, transforming the village into a vibrant space for learning, collaboration, and creative exchange.

The program’s guest was Kostas Makrygiannakis—guitarist, composer, educator, Artistic Director of the Municipal Conservatory of Thessaloniki, and one of the people who has helped shape and support the vision of the Musical Village since 2006. In a thoughtful conversation, he reflected on the origins and evolution of the initiative, the power of collaboration, the importance of improvisation, education, and shared experience, as well as the vital role that place, silence, and human connection play in the creative process.

The program also featured a selection of the guest’s favorite music, creating an atmosphere that captured the spirit of the Musical Village—a place where music brings people together and inspires new ideas.

A radio journey reminding us that, sometimes, the most meaningful destinations are not the ones we see, but the ones that teach us how to listen.
