A unique radio journey through the pathways of memory, history, and human presence unfolded on “Moving Worlds” with Katerina Batzaki on Voice of Greece on Monday, 22 June 2026.
Guest Giorgos Karagiannis, a mountain guide and one of the driving forces behind the Parnon Trail project, discussed the development of the 240-kilometer hiking route, which will form part of the wider Peloponnese Trails network spanning 1,700 kilometers.
During the conversation, Karagiannis spoke about his personal journey from the village of Doliana in Mount Parnon to his current involvement with trail development, the importance of reconnecting with one’s roots, and his vision of establishing Parnon as a hiking destination of international appeal.
Special emphasis was placed on the significance of historic footpaths as carriers of history, culture, and collective memory. Karagiannis explained how routes used for centuries are identified, restored, and marked, while sharing stories from field research, conversations with elderly residents, and traces of human presence encountered along the trails of Parnon.
The program highlighted the role of trails not only as hiking routes but also as living pathways that connect past and future, contributing to the sustainable development and revitalization of rural Greece.
