Yannis Demirtzoglou, the long-serving principal of Istanbul’s historic Zographeion Lyceum, spoke about the new school year, the students and the school’s upcoming major events. These include celebrations on 19 September marking the school’s 133rd anniversary, followed next March by the International Festival of Traditional Dance and Choirs and the International Student Conference.
He also discussed the city’s Greek community, which may be small in number but continues to hold the line, speaking on Voice of Greece’s radio program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Mr. Demirtzoglou, who has served the Zographeion Lyceum and Istanbul’s Greek community for more than four decades, expressed hope for calm in Greek-Turkish relations, as tensions between the two countries affect the city’s Greek community. He also voiced the hope that the reopening of the Halki Theological School will become a reality as soon as possible.
