”Invitation to Lunch” celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities | 16.12.2023, 13.00

On Saturday, December 16, 2023, 13:00-14:00 Greece local time, the show “Invitation to Lunch” of Voice of Greece with Eleni Karali is dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established by the United Nations in 1992 and is observed worldwide. It is celebrated around the globe, promoting understanding of disability issues and mobilizing people for the rights to dignity and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Stelios Kympouropoulos, an MEP and psychiatrist, pioneered the organization of the first Greek delegation to the pan-European event “Freedom Drive”, which became a springboard for the creation of the first Independent Living Organization in Greece, “I’Living”, a civil non-profit company run exclusively by people with disabilities.

Theodoros Chiras, nephrologist, author, and translator of books in Braille is second guest on today’s show. Mr. Chiras was inspired by his book, which promotes the spreading of the idea of organ donation, inspired by true stories of his patients and is titled “the mysteries of donation”. All proceeds go to clubs. Mr. Chiras transfers his books in Braille with the help of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece.

Spyros Dantanidis, disabled filmmaker, Vice President of the association ‘Perpato’ (‘I walk’ in Greek) ” of Komotini and co-founder of the social media account “COOL CRIPS” explains how

he managed to turn Komotini into an accessible City, which was honored with the Access City Award 2022.
