The show hosted Mr. Konstantinos Konstantinou, the Greek Ambassador to Prague, who discussed the upcoming events titled “A Sip of Aegean“, set to take place in the Czech capital from Wednesday, February 26, until March 7, 2025.
This innovative initiative, organized by StoryDoc in the Czech Republic, is supported and co-funded by the Hellenic Parliament and the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKOME), under the auspices of the Greek Embassy in Prague and in collaboration with ERT. The program includes lectures on archaeological treasures, screenings of Greek documentaries, and a showcase of Greek wine.
The initiative combines screenings of creative works before an international audience, educational activities, the production of audiovisual educational content, and knowledge-sharing lectures by experts to highlight Greek cultural heritage.
As Ambassador Konstantinou mentioned, an event-exhibition titled “Monoxylon” is currently taking place at the National Museum of the Czech Republic. This exhibition is dedicated to the first known seafaring vessel in the Aegean during prehistoric times—the Monoxylon canoe. Remarkably, a team of Czech researchers who study this ancient Greek boat constructed a replica and sailed across the Aegean Sea! During “A Sip of the Aegean”, they will present their experiment and reconstruction, while distinguished Czech and Greek archaeologists will share their insights.
The event will also feature documentaries on ancient Greek history and culture, including:
🎬 The Enigma of Keros
🎬 The Secrets of the Labyrinth
🎬 Little Land
🎬 Parvas, Barren Line
🎬 Arcadia 1900, Eastern Campaign
🎬 The Antikythera Mechanism
and more.
Many screenings will be attended by directors and contributors, followed by discussions with the audience.
Another innovative aspect of the initiative is the promotion of Greek wine culture. Attendees of the screenings and events will have the opportunity to taste Greek wines and delicacies. Additionally, a special master class will highlight Greek label design and digital advertising in the wine industry. Following the master class, a film on the history of Greek wine will be screened.
Finally, Ambassador Konstantinou spoke about the small but dynamic Greek community in the Czech Republic and the Embassy’s efforts to promote contemporary Greek culture. He emphasized the goal of attracting younger Greek expatriates, who are not part of organized Greek associations, as well as the Czech public, which he noted has a strong philhellenic sentiment—with Greece being their second most popular travel destination.
