The show featured Sissy Papathanasiou, Head of the Literature Department at the Ministry of Culture, who spoke about Greece’s participation in the 56th Cairo International Book Fair, the largest book fair in the Arab world. Opening its doors on Friday, January 24, the Greek program includes:
- A discussion on the translation of literary works.
- A presentation of the “Greeklit” program, which funds the translation of Greek literature.
- An appearance by State Poetry Prize winner Stavros Zafeiriou, who will present the Arabic-translated Anthology of Greek Poetry: 20th-21st Century.
- An event dedicated to the poet C.P. Cavafy, featuring a talk by award-winning poet and literary critic Dimitris Daskalopoulos.
Additionally, the show hosted internationally acclaimed sculptor Nikos Floros, who discussed his latest creation, an impressive steel sculpture of opera diva Maria Callas. The artwork was unveiled at the outdoor space of the renowned Teatro La Fenice in Venice, a pivotal venue in Callas’ illustrious career, celebrating her timeless impact on music and the arts.
A standout feature of the sculpture is the Greek flag, masterfully crafted into the dress adorning the iconic figure, highlighting Callas’ heritage and cultural legacy. As Mr. Floros mentioned, the sculpture will embark on a tour to other cities, including Rome, Paris, Lisbon, Chicago, and New York.
