“Faraway Words” with Rania Katavouta from Shanghai | 12 Feb. 2025

Rania Katavouta, who has been teaching Modern Greek Language and Literature at the Shanghai International Studies University since 2014, was a guest at the studios of Voice of Greece.

During the show, she spoke about life in Shanghai, Chinese culture, her passion for philology and literature, her efforts to promote contemporary Greek culture to her students, the humanities, as well as poetry and her poetry collections.

Born and raised in Elati, Trikala, Katavouta studied Modern Greek Philology in Patras and Thessaloniki. In 2017, she was awarded the “Silver Magnolia” Prize by the Shanghai Municipality for her teaching and cultural contributions. This award is given annually to foreign professionals who, through their work, contribute to the development of Shanghai and foster relations between China and their home countries.

In 2019, she published her first poetry collection, Ballerina in the Night, with Panoptikon Editions, Thessaloniki. She has contributed articles and poems to journals and online platforms, and in 2022, she participated in the 7th Shanghai International Poetry Festival.
