Kostas Papadimitropoulos, who has been living and working in Argentina for the past three years, discussed the difficulties many Argentinians face in Buenos Aires due to the reduction in their purchasing power, driven by the higher cost of living. He also highlighted the increase in the homeless population, which is now spreading to previously wealthier neighborhoods, while on the other hand, there has been a significant reduction in inflation and the fiscal deficit. He shared his insights on Voice of Greece during the show “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
According to Papadimitropoulos, life in Argentina is just as expensive, if not more so, than in Greece today, while it was much cheaper when he first moved there a few years ago. He emphasized that the national currency, the peso, is no longer depreciating as it once did. When asked about the country’s public healthcare system, he mentioned that it remains good despite budget cuts.
Papadimitropoulos also talked about the country’s president, Javier Milei, who remains popular despite implementing unpopular measures, mainly because he is not viewed as corrupt like other politicians. He touched on Milei’s warm relationship with Donald Trump and his strained relations with leaders from other countries in the region, such as Brazil and Chile.
