”Our Town” tribute to Dimitris Christodoulou | 31 Mar. 2024

On Sunday, March 31st, the show “Our Town” makes a small tribute to Dimitris Christodoulou, with special references to this prolific, post-war writer who wrote some of the most beautiful lyrics, which became wonderful songs by important Greek composers and were performed by dozens of singers such as Stelios Kazantzidis, Nikos Xylouris, Maria Farantouri, Antonis Kalogianis and others.

Dimitris Christodoulou was born in Athens in April 1924 and grew up in the poor neighborhood of Metaxourgeio. He was particularly active in resistance during the Occupation and before he turned 20 he had already been imprisoned and tortured. After the war he studied political science and theater and participated as an actor in many performances. Under the dictatorship, he went into exile in Paris, where he lived through the events of May ’68.

He left behind an extremely voluminous work and a large archive that includes songs, poetry, chronicles, theater, prose, correspondence. The show will feature many favorite songs that were sung by all our people and became a point of reference.

In the show, composer Petros Vagiopoulos and lyricist Kostas Fasoulas talk about him.
