Panagiota Vassilopoulou, who immigrated with her parents to Brazil in the early 1950s at a young age, spoke about her family’s history, life in Santos and Brazil in general—particularly the country’s vast income and wealth inequalities—and the 250 Greek-origin residents of Santos and the country as a whole. She shared her story on the radio program Our Global Voice on Voice of Greece, hosted by Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Ms. Vassilopoulou also discussed ongoing efforts to twin the port city of Santos with the port of Piraeus and her past role as coordinator of Greek expatriate organizations in South America, working to locate individuals of Greek descent.
