On the show “Faraway Words” on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, we hosted two young members of the Greek Choir of Stockholm, who were in Greece for a concert on Saturday, December 14, at 6 pm, at the Anglican Church.
Josephine Camitz and Oskar Lindroth have no ancestral ties to Greece, but they both love the country for their own reasons. Josephine first traveled to Greece at the age of 16, to Naxos, and fell in love with it. After finishing school at 19, she emigrated to Greece, studied at the Faculty of Philosophy, and stayed for a total of 7 years, working in Cinema as a director. She returned to Sweden during the Crisis years, but never forgot Greece and thus sought to join the choir. Oskar had the fortune of meeting Mikis Theodorakis at the age of only 10, with whom his musician father had collaborated for several years. Both speak good Greek, love everything Greek, and especially Greek music and the songs of the great creators. In the choir, they sing major Greek songs by creators such as Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, Manos Loizos, Odysseas Elytis, Nikos Gatsos, Tasos Livaditis, Manos Eleftheriou, and others.
Some of these beautiful Greek songs will be sung on Saturday with the choir, which consists of Greeks and Swedes, conducted by Rolando Pomo, with pianist Johan Sandback and soloist Stella Adamidou from Alexandroupoli. The concert is co-organized with the Swedish Church of Athens and is supported by the Kapetan Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation and the Friends of the Swedish Institute in Athens Association.
