Manolis Vordonis is one of the most respected figures in Greek — and global — shipping, with a distinguished 45-year career. For more than four decades at Thenamaris Ships Management Inc., he held senior leadership roles and helped shape an entire generation of maritime professionals. Today, he joined “Fair Winds and Following Seas” for a brief yet deeply heartfelt conversation about the ship and the seafarer.
“For me, a ship was — and still is — a sanctuary. You feel as if you’re standing inside Notre Dame. A ship has its own magic; it is sacred. It is a bridge to the world,” Vordonis says with affection. He continues: “A ship is guided by its sailors. Together they carry the vessel forward, alongside their chief sailor — the captain.”
Speaking about the sea, he reflects: “The sea surrounds us; we live with it. It surrounds Greece — and our soul. The sea opens our spirit and makes us citizens of the world.”
