“Our Town” welcomes Greek painter and Professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Marios Spiliopoulos, for an in-depth conversation. In a wide-ranging and thoughtful discussion with Themis Rodamitis, the artist reflects on some of the most pressing social issues of our time—violence, fear, love, death, and the growing erosion of social sensitivity, solidarity, and compassion. He also speaks about major exhibitions he has participated in in Greece and abroad.
Special focus is given to his work “Anthropon Ichni 4 – The Dialogue of Worlds” (Human Traces 4 – The Dialogue of Worlds), a large-scale audiovisual installation commissioned by the Larnaca 2030 Committee as part of the city’s bid for European Capital of Culture. In this work, Spiliopoulos presents 600 pairs of used shoes, worn by people who have walked through the city—individuals of different ages, ethnic backgrounds, and religious traditions—forming a powerful collective testimony to human presence, movement, and coexistence.
