Alexandros Georgoulis, Deputy Mayor of Ilida, joined the program to discuss the 8th Reunion of the Elean Diaspora, held on July 26 in Amaliada, which brought together hundreds of Eleans from around the world.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Mr. Georgoulis spoke about the honors bestowed by the Municipality of Ilida on distinguished members of the Elean diaspora, with special mention of Alexandros Pouros, a Greek-born member of the Hungarian Parliament. He noted that the Greek village of Beloiannisz in Hungary is twinned with the Municipality of Ilida and that the two communities continue to maintain close and enduring ties.
The conversation also explored the history of emigration from Elis, the lasting contribution of the Elean diaspora to their homeland, and the legacy of the late Petros Tatanis, founder of the historic newspaper Ethnikos Kyrix. This year’s reunion was held at his ancestral home in Amaliada.
