On Thursday, October 16, the program “Imprint” with Fuli Zavitsanou met with Vassilis Nitsiakos, Professor of Social Folklore at the University of Ioannina. He is one of the most important scholars of modern Greek folk culture, which he approaches both scientifically and experientially, as he was born and raised in one of the highest mountain villages of Greece, Aetomilitsa in Ioannina.
He spoke to us about Social Folklore, about the relationship between nature and culture, about the sustainable communities of pre-modern times, about the connection between ecology and local knowledge, as well as about today’s struggles against the plundering of nature in the Greek countryside.
