Othon Iliopoulos, Associate Professor of Oncology at Harvard University and former SYRIZA MP, spoke on Voice of Greece and the radio show “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis about President Trump’s policies and a group of technocrats advancing their 2025 agenda—a move that, as Iliopoulos explained, has sparked a direct clash with the academic community, especially Harvard.
He detailed substantial federal funding cuts to various university research programs, resulting in either the termination or significant reduction of projects, including a cancer immunotherapy research program at Harvard that has been halted.
Regarding Greek students at Harvard, Iliopoulos noted widespread panic. Those who haven’t graduated may need to transfer to other universities to continue their studies in the U.S. Additionally, U.S. embassies worldwide have reportedly been instructed not to issue or renew student visas for foreigners enrolled at Harvard or affiliated institutions.
“This is a frontal political confrontation between President Trump and Harvard,” Iliopoulos emphasized. “If he succeeds in subduing an institution like Harvard, he will not only earn praise from his supporters but also consolidate his dominance.”
