Voice of Greece’s “Moving Worlds,” hosted by Katerina Batzaki, dedicated a special edition to the historic Pallas Cinema in the Athens neighborhood of Pangrati. Celebrating its 101st anniversary this year, the landmark movie theater now faces the prospect of being converted to another use.
The program welcomed filmmaker Thanos Lyberopoulos, who presented his seven-minute documentary about the Pallas Cinema and spoke about the importance of preserving—if only through film—a place that has become a symbol of Athens’ collective memory.
Also joining the discussion was Nikos Theodosiou, a researcher specializing in the history of Athens’ cinemas. He reflected on the Pallas Cinema’s unique cultural legacy, its close connection with the city’s history, and the importance of preserving it as a living cultural venue.
The program also highlighted the campaign led by the Initiative to Save the Pallas Cinema of Pangrati, informing listeners about the ongoing petition calling for the preservation of this historic movie theater.
