How much of a place can fit into a glass of wine?
On Monday, August 24, “Moving Worlds” traveled with Katerina Batzaki to Kefalonia, into the heart of the grape harvest, where grapes become wine and wine becomes memory.
Petros Markantonatos of Gentilini Winery & Vineyards took listeners into the vineyards of Kefalonia. He discussed this year’s harvest, Robola and the island’s indigenous grape varieties, fermentation and the science behind winemaking, as well as how the soil, climate, and climate change ultimately leave their mark on every bottle.
Then, chef and culinary consultant Giorgos Antonellos brought the wine to the table. He spoke about Kefalonian cuisine, food and wine pairings, flavors that evoke memories, and that magical moment when wine, food, and people come together around the same table.
Because perhaps the true journey of wine is not from the vineyard to the glass, but from one person to another.
