Take Your Time with Prokopis Agelopoulos | 11.01.2024

On Thursday, January 11th, 2024, we started with morning greetings from Florina and ERT correspondent Maria Gaigani, who showed us images of the snowy city, which is having its first really cold days for the 2023-2024 season.

Then, after reading the headlines of the newspapers, we connected with London with Mrs Eleni Nastouli, Professor of Virology at the University College of London, who informed us about the latest developments regarding the coronavirus outbreak and other seasonal viral diseases. She recommended caution, using masks and avoiding crowds, but also vaccination for older people and our most vulnerable citizens.

At the end of the first hour, Giorgos Kounanis, political scientist and co-manager of the LGBTI Labour Support Group, was asked to comment on the Prime Minister’s announcements on the regulation of marriage and childbearing by same-sex couples, clarifying that while this is a positive and historic event for the LGBTI community in Greece, it does not ensure equality as provided for in the Constitution, as it excludes same-sex male couples from assisted reproduction with a surrogate mother.

At the beginning of the second hour, Mr. Thanasis Theocharopoulos, member of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA-P.A., who spoke on the show, criticized the attitude and choices of Kyriakos Mitsotakis because of the above exception. He said, however, that his party might vote in favor of the regulation after having seen what it would include.

Immediately afterwards, a guest in the studio was the young second-generation expatriate from England, a graduate of Literature at Oxford, Eliana Noons. She spoke about her life in London, her mother who had insisted that she learnt and spoke fluent Greek, but also about her experience working for two seasons in a tourist business in Mykonos and Spetses.

The show concluded with Ivana Djordjevic in the studio for international news and Antigone Drakatou for sports news.
