Take Your Time with Prokopis Agelopoulos | 11 Oct. 2024

On the show of Friday, October 11, 2024, we started with current events, focusing on the great victory of our national football team over England at Wembley. The match carried emotional weight for our players due to the passing of George Baldock. We had a live phone connection with Petros Mavrogiannidis, a journalist from ERA Sport, who reported on the match for Greek radio.

We also connected with Florida, USA, where Mrs. Argiro Papapanos, a Greek expatriate and restaurant owner in the area hit by Hurricane Milton, described the moments she experienced. She chose not to leave her restaurant, keeping it open to help rescue teams and National Guard soldiers while strong winds tore off the front roof of her establishment.

Before 11 a.m., political analyst Maria Karaklioumi discussed developments in PASOK ahead of the second leadership election between Androulakis and Doukas, and in SYRIZA-PS just before the critical meeting of the Central Committee.

The second hour began with Ivana Djordjevic covering international news. This was followed by a phone conversation with Matthaios Santamouris, a distinguished professor at the University of New South Wales, with whom we discussed climate change, referencing Hurricane Milton in Florida. We also touched on a seminar at the University of Cyprus, where he was honored as a doctor, focused on how rising temperatures due to climate change may affect children’s learning abilities.

At the end of the show, our studio guest was our own Dimitris Alexopoulos, a journalist at Voice of Greece and a member of the Disciplinary Council of the Journalists’ Union of Athens (ESIEA). We talked about ethics in journalism, the internet, and fake news.
Alongside him, we greeted Mr. Pavlos Aslanidis, a member of the Association of the Affected from the Tempi train accident, who updated us on the case and the major concert taking place on Friday, October 11, at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro), aimed at raising funds for the association’s legal battles.
