A broadcast dedicated, in large part, to the International Greek Language Day.
On the subject of Greek Language Day and its history over the years, as well as its role today and the Greek Diaspora and the second and third generation Greeks, we listened to Ms. Nikoletta Tsitsanoudi Mallidi, Professor of Linguistics and Greek Language at the University of Ioannina and Mr. Giorgos Babiniotis, Professor of Linguistics and former Rector of the University of Athens.
Mr. Babiniotis also spoke on the issue of the establishment of non-state universities in Greece, reiterating his proposal for admission to higher education without national examinations in a way that the lyceum and its teachers will regain their prestige. Regarding non-state universities, he clarified that it is not possible for large foreign institutions to be interested in establishing branches in our country, but he agreed that they should exist alongside public institutions, which must be financially supported. These non-state universities will be able to admit students with grades slightly lower than those achieved by those admitted to public universities.
During the show, we also commented on current affairs with the help of journalist and political analyst, Serafim Kotrotsos, while, in the second hour, we listened to the interview given to Eliana Nunes in London by Angela Despotidou, the Greek who edited the short film “The After” that is nominated at this year’s Academy Awards in the relevant category for Best Short Film.
