The winemaker Andreas Gkikas appeared on the show “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos on September 19, 2024.
Mr. Gkikas, a member and former President of the Attica Wine Producers Association, discussed the history of the Attica vineyard and the challenges faced by winemakers, with the primary concern being climate change and the emerging opportunity of wine tourism.
He emphasized that Attica has the potential to capitalize on its rich history by promoting its wine alongside its cultural heritage. Gkikas also called for changes to the legislation to support winemaking businesses, enabling them to create visitor-friendly wineries. He noted that the Eleftherios Venizelos airport is built on land that once had vineyards, which belonged to the charismatic ancient Greek politician and military leader Alcibiades.
