The program “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Angelopoulos hosted in the studio the distinguished architect, urban planner, and historian of urban planning Alexandros Papageorgiou-Venetas.
Papageorgiou-Venetas is a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens and pursued postgraduate studies in urban planning in Paris. He holds a doctorate in engineering from the Technical University of Berlin (Charlottenburg) and has served as Professor of the History of Urban Planning at the postgraduate Centre “Raymond Lemaire” of the University of Leuven.
He has also been a visiting professor at the Technical Universities of Stuttgart, Munich, and Heidelberg, and is a corresponding member of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning. In addition, he has been a member of the Council of Europe’s Committee on Historic Landscapes and Cities, as well as an expert for UNESCO and the HABITAT Centre on the conservation of historic cities.
Internationally recognized for his work on the urban history of modern Athens, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1998, and has also received the Silver Medal of the Academy of Athens for his overall scientific contribution.
