“Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis welcomes novelist, essayist and translator Philip Dracodaidis, a distinguished figure in Greek literary and intellectual life.
Mr. Dracodaidis reflects on the defining points of his career, the condition of the modern Greek essay, and his concerns for Greek letters – especially language, thought, and how they respond to change.
He also talks about how phenomena such as violence and rapid transformation affect people’s capacity to absorb our evolving world, diminishing the immediacy of perception, the act of recording, and the experience of detail.
The conversation includes references to crime fiction and overtourism, his favourite cities and old neighbourhoods, the living city and its human relationships.
