Human Rights Lawyer Alexandra Karagianni on “Take Your Time” | 21 Nov. 2025

The program “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos welcomed Human Rights lawyer and Council of Europe expert Alexandra Karagianni to the studio. Ms Karagianni spoke about the Roma Political School, organised by the Council of Europe and taking place in November–December 2025 at the Department of Political Science of Panteion University. She also discussed the policies needed for the social inclusion of Roma communities in Greek society, the necessity of de-ghettoisation, and the European funding earmarked for Roma support and integration programmes that is lost each year due to lack of implementation.

Alexandra Karagianni holds a Law degree from the University of Athens and an LL.M. in Labour Law. She has distinguished herself for her sustained work in the defence of human rights, with a focus on women, young people, and Roma children. She has served as Special Secretary for Human Rights of the Confederation of Greek Roma ELLAN PASSE and as a member of the National Commission for Human Rights. With an active presence in European institutions, research groups, and advocacy initiatives, she founded the NGO ActRom, which promotes equality and the empowerment of Roma communities. Her areas of work include access to justice, the empowerment of Roma youth and women, gender-based and domestic violence, the protection of minors, and the fight against statelessness and multiple discrimination.
