Antonis Klapsis, Associate Professor of Modern History and International Politics at the University of the Peloponnese, spoke about the history of the Macedonian Struggle (1904–1908) on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Macedonian fighter Tellos Agras, in an interview on Voice of Greece radio, on the program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Mr. Klapsis began his account in 1870, when the Bulgarian Exarchate was established, and continued through the end of the 19th century, referring to Greece’s bankruptcy in 1893, the disastrous Greco-Turkish War of 1897 with the Ottoman Empire, the Cretan Revolt, and the struggles fought in Macedonia against the komitadjis in order to preserve the Greek language and national consciousness, with the participation of Greek volunteer officers such as Pavlos Melas, among others.
