To mark International Xinomavro Day, celebrated every year on 1 November, the program devoted a short feature to this important Greek grape variety. Alexandros Triantafyllou, a sommelier with extensive experience in Greece’s hospitality and wine sectors, joined us in the studio to discuss Xinomavro. He has worked as a sommelier and beverage manager in restaurants and hotels, twice placed third in the Panhellenic Sommelier Competition, and holds the ASI Diploma, Silver Pin.
In the program’s second hour, we welcomed olive oil sommelier Eleftheria Karyoti to the studio from Rotterdam, where she lives. She works with small producers in Greece and Spain, selecting olive oils for the Dutch market and organizing tastings. We discussed Dutch consumers’ understanding of extra virgin olive oil quality, as well as Rotterdam’s food scene.
