Poet of the Week 01/27/2020

Dimitris Angelis was born in Athens in 1973. He studied theology and holds a doctorate in philosophy.
A poet and essayist, he has published seven poetry collections, studies and short stories. He was director of the magazine Nea Efthini (iss. 1-16), currently, the magazine Frear (distinction by the Greek State Awards Committee in 2014) and is co-director (with Stavros Giagkazoglou) of the annual publication of Christian dialogue and culture Anthivola. He has been awarded the Lampros Porfyras Prize of the Academy of Athens for his book “Anniversary”, the Corda Foundation (New York) Translation Prize for the anthology and translation into Greek of poems by the Chilean David Rosenmann-Taub and the Greek State Poetry Prize for the collection “Οn my Bed, a Deer in Sorrow”. In 2016, his poems were presented at the Hellenic American Union in an exhibition entitled “Light-Life”, alongside paintings by Alekos Kyrarinis. He is president of Poets’ Circle and has directed the 3rd and 5th Athens World Poetry Festival. His poems have been translated into many languages. He is a teacher, headmaster at the “Nea Genia Ziridi” private schools.
