At the start of the second hour of Thursday’s broadcast, 26 March, we heard an interview given earlier to Voice of Greece and the program “Take Your Time”, by Iasonas Apostolopoulos, a well-known rescue worker and activist. Speaking just hours before boarding his return flight to Europe, Apostolopoulos described his recent days in Cuba, where he participated in a major solidarity mission in support of the Cuban people, who are currently facing severe hardship due to their exclusion from international oil markets.
He outlined the difficult conditions experienced by the population, with ongoing power outages effectively paralyzing the country. Repeated blackouts have even led to water supply cuts lasting several days in neighborhoods of Havana. The lack of fuel has also severely restricted transportation and the production of even the most basic necessities.
However, as he notes, it is clear that even those who oppose the regime are against the prospect of a U.S. attack and are prepared to defend their country if necessary. Iasonas Apostolopoulos also stresses the need for a coordinated response from the international community and meaningful support for the people of Cuba.
