What do the words “I am a woman” truly encompass?
On Monday, October 5, Katerina Batzaki welcomed Zana Kontomanoli to the Voice of Greece studio for “Moving Worlds.” A designer, cultural project manager, and visual artist, Kontomanoli is the curator of the group art exhibition “I am a woman.”
Taking the exhibition at DOMATIO ART SPACE in Athens as a starting point, the conversation explored the female body and the gaze that defines it, social expectations, the many roles of contemporary women, identity, inclusion, and the right to be vulnerable.
Particular attention was given to Kontomanoli’s own work, “I don’t want to be thin again,” and to “Rape island” (black clay, 2026), where a hammer transforms the body, trauma, and memory into a visual narrative and an act of reclamation.
Perhaps the most compelling word in the phrase “I am a woman” is not “woman.”
It is “am.”
