On Monday, 17 August, “Moving Worlds” with Katerina Batzaki on ERT’s Voice of Greece traveled to Papigo, where stone does more than build homes: it preserves memories.
The guest was Charitakis Papaioannou, biologist, coordinator of the Vikos–Aoos UNESCO Global Geopark and president of the Hellenic Mountaineering and Skiing Club of Papigo.
A conversation about Mount Tymfi and its trails, the Balkan chamois, protecting wildlife, and the delicate balance between tourism and preserving a unique place.
The journey also ventured deeper into memory. Charitakis Papaioannou spoke about his father, Ioannis Papaioannou, who spent decades documenting Papigo’s history, leaving behind four books and a valuable archive of family histories, photographs, and documents. His son continues that work today.
