Ilias Fragkakis was born in Athens. He studied sociology, political science, music and directing in Greece and abroad.
He has mainly directed theater productions (at the Greek National Theater, some Municipal and Regional Theaters and independent theaters), but also documentaries, short films and a television series, for which he co-wrote the script.
He founded and was the artistic director of the theater company “Scholeion tis Nyktos” and the “Choros” theater in Athens. He was the artistic director of the Rhodes Municipal and Regional Theater and the Municipal Theater of Keratsini. He has taken part in various film festivals, where his work was distinguished and awarded. With the play “Orestis” by Yannis Ritsos, which he directed, he took part in the Monodrama Festival of the International Theater Institute in Dhaka, Bangladesh (official Greek entry) where the performance won the award for best performance of the event.
He has written music for theater and songs.
His verses have been set to music and some of these songs have been included in theater plays. He has written scripts for film and television as well as two plays.
He has translated classical Greek drama, classical French plays, Elizabethan and modern Anglo-Saxon plays, poetry from Bulgarian and Spanish, as well as texts on cultural theory.
He has been writing texts and short stories from a very young age.
He has taught acting, script writing, directing and aesthetics of the visual image in acting workshops and public Institutes of Vocational Training (IEK).
He is an expert in the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance EOPPEP (Ministry of Education) in the state certification examinations for directors, cinematographers and editors.
He has occasionally worked as a sociologist and also in the field of political communication.
He has participated in various conferences and symposia with contributions on art and cultural policy.
He has traveled to many parts of the world, exploring and studying human culture.
The publication of his first novel is underway and his second poetry collection is being completed.
